Chapter Members and Visitors,

Welcome to our ISACA, Great Houston Chapter website!

We recently held our Annual General Meeting and one day gratis Security and Audit Conference July 21. We have not offered a gratis one day conference in a while, although all of our conferences are quite reasonable, and it was appreciated. As someone noted, “Free is always good!”

We had a good turnout, around 125, with approximately 85 staying to the final bell; it did help that we gave away several $100 certificates at the close of the day.

We had several folks who gave significantly of their time to both plan and serve our members and guests during the conference, and we will acknowledge them shortly on our website. However, one person I want to thank now is Mel McQueary, with HCC, who was able to help us rent the auditorium at their West Loop South Campus. We received many compliments on the space itself and the location.

That was our second one day conference this year, and we are planning more, including our 4th Annual Cyber Security Conference October 6, a Friday, also at the HCC West Loop South Campus. Thanks to Richard Peters and Norman Comstock for heading this one up for us! We should be able to get a Call for Speakers out soon.

We are also beginning to scope out the possibility of holding a Golf Tournament later this year, and I want to personally thank my good friend Randy Fernandez, who has encouraged us to do this, and who will help with his trade-marked project plan! Although it is quite early, and we don’t have anything solid yet to run by the Board for their approval, we are looking at the possibility of also having 2-3 hours of training, for those who do not want to golf or help out, but still, want to attend.

We are also talking with UHCL’s Cyber Security Institute about partnering on a couple of conferences, and of course, we want to at least have one more conference in December, along with our monthly meetings. I just want to thank our Board and everyone involved in planning and holding our monthly events, and remind everyone that, unlike some other ISACA chapters, we do not “go dark” during the summer, but continue to provide monthly meetings.

Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope to see you soon at one of our events!
